FAIR. BALANCED. EXPERIENCED
The best judges follow the law, are fair and even-tempered, and treat everyone with dignity and respect. I always strive to uphold these ideals in my career, never losing sight of the fact that criminal law is about people. The decisions that are made during the course of a case have a significant impact on the lives of those involved, as well as the community. It is important to follow the law, but it is equally important to be compassionate and treat people with respect.
Throughout my career, I have prosecuted some of the most horrific crimes that have occurred in Monroe County. I have conducted several homicide trials throughout my career that involve complex legal issues. In preparing these cases for trial, I have encountered people who are scared, nervous, and distraught. I have always found that practicing kindness and compassion and having empathy for the circumstances of others is paramount to guiding people through all aspects of a case. As a judge, it is important to keep that in perspective and also balance the need for accountability.
